The Journal of Environmental Psychology serves individuals in a wide range of disciplines who have an interest in the scientific study of the transactions and interrelationships between people and their physical surroundings (including built and natural environments, the use and abuse of nature and natural resources, and sustainability-related behavior). The journal publishes internationally contributed empirical studies and reviews of research on these topics that include new insights.As an important forum for the field, the journal reflects the scientific development and maturation of environmental psychology. The Journal of Environmental Radioactivity provides a coherent international forum for publication of original research or review papers on any aspect of the occurrence of radioactivity in natural systems.Relevant subject areas range from applications of environmental radionuclides as mechanistic or timescale tracers of natural processes to assessments of the radioecological or radiological effects of ambient radioactivity. Papers deal with naturally occurring nuclides or with those created and released by man through nuclear weapons manufacture and testing, energy production, fuel-cycle technology, etc. Reports on radioactivity in the oceans, sediments, rivers, lakes, groundwaters, soils, atmosphere and all divisions of the biosphere are welcomed, but these should not simply be of a monitoring nature unless the data are particularly innovative.Research papers are also included which, by either experimental or theoretical approaches, aim towards an improved understanding of the behaviour, transfer and distribution of environmental radionuclides. Predictive modelling is particularly encouraged. Papers on dating methods are acceptable if they have clear geophysical or geochemical significance. Descriptions of experimental methods should be both highly original and specifically related to determination of low-level environmental activities.The journal provides a vehicle for objective, open and peer-reviewed publication and discussion of the more controversial aspects of environmental radioactivity, including assessments of health effects, criteria for discharge control and options for ultimate disposal of nuclear wastes.Publication in this field is also encouraged in the related book series Radioactivity in the Environment designed to complement the coverage of the journal.

The Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health (JEGH) plans to impact global epidemiology and international health with peer-reviewed articles focused on innovative scholarship and strategies to advance global health policy. The journal will take special interest in publishing rigorous assessments of policies where these have been implemented based on epidemiological and public health research. At Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health we believe epidemiology and public health are closely intertwined, both scientifically, and from a health policy vantage: advances in one area exert positive consequences on the other.The journal benefits from a diverse, multidisciplinary, experienced and unusually international editorial board that will facilitate the publication of articles and perspectives reflecting a global view of public health medicine and epidemiology. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology is dedicated to the exchange of information and understandings about people's use of plants, fungi, animals, microorganisms and minerals and their biological and pharmacological effects based on the principles established through international conventions. Early people confronted with illness and disease, discovered a wealth of useful therapeutic agents in the plant and animal kingdoms. The empirical knowledge of these medicinal substances and their toxic potential was passed on by oral tradition and sometimes recorded in herbals and other texts on materia medica. Many valuable drugs of today (e.g., atropine, ephedrine, tubocurarine, digoxin, reserpine) came into use through the study of indigenous remedies. Chemists continue to use plant-derived drugs (e.g., morphine, taxol, physostigmine, quinidine, emetine) as prototypes in their attempts to develop more effective and less toxic medicinals.In recent years the preservation of local knowledge, the promotion of indigenous medical systems in primary health care, and the conservation of biodiversity have become even more of a concern to all scientists working at the interface of social and natural sciences but especially to ethnopharmacologists. Recognizing the sovereign rights of States over their natural resources, ethnopharmacologists are particularly concerned with local people's rights to further use and develop their autochthonous resources.Accordingly, today's ethnopharmacological research embraces the multidisciplinary effort in the:• documentation of indigenous medical knowledge,• scientific study of indigenous medicines in order to contribute in the long-run to improved health care in the regions of study, as well as• search for pharmacologically unique principles from existing indigenous remedies.The Journal of Ethnopharmacology publishes original articles concerned with the observation and experimental investigation of the biological activities of plant and animal substances used in the traditional medicine of past and present cultures. The journal will particularly welcome interdisciplinary papers with an ethnopharmacological, an ethnobotanical or an ethnochemical approach to the study of indigenous drugs. Reports of anthropological and ethnobotanical field studies fall within the journal's scope. Studies involving pharmacological and toxicological mechanisms of action are especially welcome. Clinical studies on efficacy will be considered if contributing to the understanding of specific ethnopharmacological problems. The journal welcomes review articles in the above mentioned fields especially those highlighting the multi-disciplinary nature of ethnopharmacology. Commentaries are by invitation only.

The Journal provides a forum for work on the biochemistry, physiology, behaviour, and genetics of marine plants and animals in relation to their ecology; all levels of biological organization will be considered, including studies of ecosystems and ecological modelling. The main emphasis of the Journal lies in experimental work, both from the laboratory and the field. Descriptive studies will, however, be acceptable if they elucidate general ecological principles. The Journal of Financial Intermediation seeks to publish research in the broad areas of financial intermediation, investment banking, corporate finance, financial contracting, risk management and credit markets.Editorial PhilosophyThe new Editorial Board of the Journal of Financial Intermediation seeks to streamline the editorial process by implementing an active desk-rejection policy. We anticipate that a significant fraction of papers will be rejected without a detailed reviewing process. In this way, papers going out for reviews have a significant chance of eventually being published. While the policy is meant to minimize the burden on reviewers, submitters should expect their papers to receive a more thorough treatment in the editorial process, conditional on being refereed. Desk-rejected articles will be refunded a significant portion of the submission fee.Reducing noise and increasing transparency of the refereeing process is an overarching goal of the new editorial policy. In this vein, the JFI is simplifying its editorial board structure and expanding the board of associate editors. Submitters may now expect their papers to be reviewed almost exclusively by members of the editorial board, or by researchers whose expertise is at par with that of members of the board. At the same time, the submission process is now single-blind, implying that author identity will not be hidden. Submitters may choose the Managing Editor in charge of their submission.
