The Journal of Great Lakes Research is multidisciplinary in its coverage, publishing manuscripts on a wide range of theoretical and applied topics in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and geology of the large lakes of the world and their watersheds. We also welcome contributions on saline lakes. Research on estuarine waters may be considered if the results have application to large lakes. Large lakes generally are considered as those lakes which have a mean surface area of >500 km2 (see Herdendorf, C.E. 1982. Large lakes of the world. J. Great Lakes Res. 8:379-412, for examples), although smaller lakes may be considered, including very deep lakes. The Journal of Human Evolution concentrates on publishing the highest quality papers covering all aspects of human evolution. The central focus is aimed jointly at palaeoanthropological work, covering human and primate fossils, and at comparative studies of living species, including both morphological and molecular evidence. These include descriptions of new discoveries, interpretative analyses of new and previously described material, and assessments of the phylogeny and palaeobiology of primate species.In addition to original research papers, space is allocated for the rapid publication of short communications on new discoveries, such as exciting new fossils, or on matters of topical interest, such as reports on meetings. The journal also publishes longer review papers solicited from workers active in particular fields of research. Journal of Ichthyology is an English version of Voprosy ikhtiologii. Since its foundation in 1953, as an irregulary published collection of papers, and its establishment as a periodical in 1961, it has remained the leading domestic journal in all fields of ichthyology. All articles are reviewed and cover fish ecology, morphology, genetics, physiology, embryology, systematics and fisheries biology. The Editorial Board welcomes articles from all countries of the world, provided they meet our scientific standards. Papers that are submitted in English and accepted by the Editorial Board are translated into Russian. Both versions are published simultaneously in Journal of Ichthyology and Voprosy Ikhtiologii, respectively.

The Journal of Insect Behavior offers peer-reviewed research articles and short critical reviews on all aspects of the behavior of insects and other terrestrial arthropods such as spiders, centipedes, millipedes, and isopods. Under an internationally respected editorial board, the journal discusses technological innovations and new developments in the field. International in scope and audience, the Journal of Insect Conservation publishes articles on the conservation of insects and related invertebrates. The papers presented touch on all aspects of conservation and biodiversity of insects and closely related groups such as Arachnids and Myriapods, including ecological work with conservation implications. Articles focus on both theoretical and practical topics, addressing the subject at the community, population and species level. Coverage includes aspects of behaviour, taxonomy and genetics, and ranges from local to global. Review articles are included, as well as points of view which are likely to stimulate debate. The journal is produced in association with Butterfly Conservation, a wildlife charity dedicated to the conservation of lepidoptera and their habitats which was closely involved in developing its concept. All aspects of insect physiology are published in this journal which will also accept papers on the physiology of other arthropods, if the referees consider the work to be of general interest. The coverage includes endocrinology (in relation to moulting, reproduction and metabolism), pheromones, neurobiology (cellular, integrative and developmental), physiological pharmacology, nutrition (food selection, digestion and absorption), homeostasis, excretion, reproduction and behaviour. Papers covering functional genomics and molecular approaches to physiological problems will also be included. Communications on structure and applied entomology can be published if the subject matter has an explicit bearing on the physiology of arthropods. The aim of the journal is to report novel scientific discoveries related to all biological processes in plants using integrative genetic, chemical, cell and molecular biological approaches to understand plants at micro- and macro-scale. Articles submitted to JIPB should fit in one of the following six themes: 1) Cell & Developmental Biology; 2) Metabolic Biology & Biochemistry; 3) Signal Transduction & Stress Response; 4) Systems Biology & Molecular Physiology; 5) Sexual Reproduction; and 6) Molecular Evolution & Ecology. Our primary focus is on providing the answers to significant plant biological questions and on the technologies essential for such studies. Preliminary observations, purely descriptive studies, tissue culture and transformation, and reporting on single plant-derived chemicals fall beyond the scope of the journal.
